About Me: Constance Newman, MSW, MPH is Team Leader for Gender Equality and Health at IntraHealth International. She a global health expert and women’s rights advocate with over 30 years’ experience in East and West Africa, Central/Latin America, Asia, the Near East and the Pacific regions, working to strengthen health and organizational systems in global and country projects, including workforce development, leadership, management and governance, occupational safety and health, and labor rights, and improving health systems response to violence against women.

Her program experience spans family planning, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, primary health care, child survival, water and sanitation, nutrition, developmental disabilities and refugee resettlement. She is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Maternal and Child Health, UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in Chapel Hill.

Ms. Newman's research has documented the constellations of workforce gender bias and discrimination, including occupational segregation, sexual harassment, pregnancy and family responsibilities discrimination and stereotyping in educational and employment systems. Ms. Newman has led several research teams and publications, including:
